DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - Two people are behind bars following the death of a 7-month-old baby girl in Coffee County and the child’s family is demanding justice, saying the system failed her.

According to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on Queenie Street where baby Paisley was found unresponsive with no heartbeat after allegedly being left alone with her mother’s boyfriend.

Guillmero Pineda has been arrested and charged with:

  • Malice Murder
  • Felony Murder
  • Aggravated Battery
  • Cruelty to Children in the First Degree

Paisley’s mother, Hannah Green, is also facing charges:

  • Cruelty to Children in the Second Degree
  • Tampering with Evidence

Paisley’s aunt, Kimberly Bennefield, says the loss is unbearable and believes both should be held accountable.

“It’s hard getting up and having to come to work every day knowing that I can’t be there,” Bennefield said. “And this is my way of being there for her making sure she has the justice she deserves.”

Investigators say the baby suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including head trauma, broken ribs, and fractures across her body.

WALB filed an open records request with the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) to determine if there were any prior investigations involving Green’s children. A DFCS spokesperson responded with this statement:

“We are devastated to hear of the loss of this child and extend our sympathies to her loved ones. We will continue to partner with law enforcement as they investigate this tragedy.”

Bennefield said she had previously warned her niece not to leave the baby with the man and feels more could’ve been done to protect Paisley.

“For her to let somebody come in and do this to that baby… I feel like justice needs to be done for her too,” she said. “She should be getting the same thing he’s getting. If she tried to cover things up, she should be charged the same.”

Both Pineda and Green remain in custody at the Coffee County Pretrial Detention Center. The case will be handed over to the Waycross Judicial Circuit for prosecution following an autopsy conducted by the GBI in Pooler.

WALB will continue to follow this case as it develops.
