ATKINSON COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has identified the person accused of making a bomb threat that led to the early dismissal of all Atkinson County schools last week.
According to the GBI, 37-year-old Kendall Alfonzo Stevens, from Savannah, made the threat against an Atkinson County school on Friday, Aug. 21. Investigators say Stevens is currently incarcerated at Telfair State Prison, where he is serving a life-without-parole sentence.

The GBI said the preliminary investigation indicates Stevens made the threat in an effort to disrupt school operations. The Atkinson County School System’s chief of police requested the GBI’s assistance with the investigation.
The GBI investigation remains ongoing. Once it is complete, the case file will be turned over to the Alapaha District Attorney’s Office for review.
