BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX/Gray News) - A new tropical storm forming in the Atlantic Ocean will coincidentally share the name of the late country music legend.

Dolly is the next name on this year’s list of hurricanes.

The monitored tropical wave has a high chance of developing into a tropical storm or hurricane within the next two days. If the wave does not develop soon, there is still a high likelihood of development within the next seven days.

The storm will likely be named Tropical Storm Dolly and could become Hurricane Dolly if it intensifies enough.

Dolly Parton died on Aug. 25. Her nephew, Bryan Seaver, revealed the news of her death in a Facebook video.

While it is far too early to determine the threat level and likely path of the expected tropical cyclone, we do know historically that this region of the Atlantic comes alive in late August and September.

Typically, tropical waves develop off the coast of Africa or in the Gulf and move in a clockwise path that brings the Eastern Seaboard into focus. Most tropical storms and hurricanes that have affected Vermont and the Northeast have occurred in August and September.
