CUTHBERT, Ga. (WALB) South Georgia Technical College swept both basketball games against Andrew College on Saturday, with the women winning 86-63 and the men cruising to a 107-54 victory behind a dominant first-half performance.

The Lady Jets improved their conference record behind a standout performance from Teja Bennett, who scored 34 points to lead South Georgia Technical to the victory over the Lady Tigers.

Andrew College entered the game sitting in second place in the GCAA with a 3-1 conference record, looking to improve to 4-1.

Bennett got the Lady Jets off to a hot start, scoring 18 points in the first half. After Andrew’s Hanna Morris missed a shot, Jazmyn Thomas grabbed the offensive rebound for the Lady Tigers. Bennett continued her strong play, cutting through the middle to tie the game at 6-6.

South Georgia Technical missed a three-pointer, but Bennett was there for the putback as she dominated the first 20 minutes.

The Lady Jets went on a run in the second quarter and took an 8-point lead into halftime. They maintained control throughout the third quarter and extended their advantage to 16 points by the fourth quarter.

In the final period, Candice Ganga found Bennett, who hit a jumper with one dribble to continue her scoring outburst.

The SGTC men’s team came out strong, opening the game with a 19-0 run and never looking back.

Matt Mbole got things started for the Jets, handling contact to score the first basket. When Andrew’s Zion Suber tried to score, Mbole blocked the shot.

After Guilaume Schoentgen missed a free throw, Clark Mastin grabbed the offensive rebound and found Schoentgen for a three-pointer.

The Tigers finally got on the scoreboard six minutes into the first half. South Georgia showed excellent ball movement throughout the game, with Ilich Yacaman driving through the middle for a strong finish and drawing a foul.

Andrew College’s Elijah Hightower hit a three-pointer late in the first half, but the Jets still maintained a 30-point lead.

South Georgia Tech took a 33-point lead into halftime, and the second half followed the same pattern as the Jets won easily.

The Lady Tigers will return to action Saturday against East Georgia State. The men’s team will travel to Gordon State on Wednesday.
