GEORGIA (WALB) -For years, Georgia veterans with service-connected disabilities have faced barriers to accessing affordable housing.

Disability benefits were often counted as part of annual income, making many veterans ineligible for housing programs they had earned through their service.

Now, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to change that. He co-sponsored the bipartisan Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act (HUDVA), first introduced by Senators Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA), which aims to remove disability benefits from income calculations.

“Our national honor requires that we lift up and support all who have sacrificed in America’s defense. That’s why I am working to end veteran homelessness in Georgia and nationwide.”
