ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany Fire and Rescue crews are continuing to search the Flint River for a man who jumped in this weekend and disappeared beneath the murky waters.

Officials with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) confirmed that someone jumped into the Flint River at Muckafoonee Creek Saturday, May 10, likely in an attempt to avoid the DNR’s boat license checks. The man has not resurfaced, officials said.

The DNR said one of their officers was out checking boat licenses when they approached a man and woman. The man began to flee from the officer, and consequently jumped into the river.

The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office was called out on the night of May 10 to help the DNR find and recover the man, according to Lieutenant James Covey.

Monday, DNR officials told WALB that Albany Fire and Rescue resumed their search this morning at the Radium Springs Landing Park.

The identity of the missing man and his companion still have not been released. No further details have been confirmed, but DNR is currently investigating.

Muckafoonee Creek is located northwest of Albany’s downtown.
