ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The countdown is on; we are less than 6 days away from the PB&J Food Drive. WALB is partnering with Feeding the Valley to support local children this summer.
On ‘The Rundown’ WALB News 10′s Quinlan Parker talked with Jay Cannon facility manager for Feeding the Valley Albany, who says child food insecurity in Dougherty County alone is at an unacceptable high, and when you bring in the rest of the region they cover, that number increases significantly.
You may remember we got an exclusive inside look at Feeding the Valley’s commercial kitchen, where fresh, hot, nutritious meals are made and delivered to 7 sites here in Dougherty County. Cannon says their dream for the future is to create their own commercial kitchen here in Albany.
”They’re not having to come down from Columbus for those 7 sites that we actually take care of in Albany, and we would be able to exponentially grow that immediately and start providing those hot meals and delivering those to the schools on-site,” said Cannon.
The PB&J Food Drive focuses on collecting shelf-stable, kid-friendly items that don’t require cooking and are easy to serve.
You can help by donating items such as new, unopened jars of peanut butter, jelly, and similar spreads, and mac & cheese.
