Description

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) - A police standoff Thursday led to the arrest of a man authorities say is connected to an overnight shooting that left one injured, according to the Thomasville Police Department.

Darius Jackson, 42, was arrested Thursday after allegedly barricading himself in an apartment. TPD says he is facing 11 charges related to the standoff and a shooting that happened just before midnight Wednesday at the Villa North Apartments.

Police said Thursday that they zeroed in on Jackson and traced him down to Wood Valley Complex, which is just a three-minute drive from the site of the shooting.

TPD did not disclose which elements of their investigation led them to focus on Jackson, but Police Captain Toby Knifer did share they obtained a warrant for his arrest. Their investigation also uncovered other unrelated outstanding warrants for his arrest, the police captain said.

But authorities say his arrest did not go smoothly.

When TPD attempted to contact him, Jackson allegedly barricaded himself inside an apartment. That prompted police to evacuate the complex for residents’ safety.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol also responded to the apartment, which is located off North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in northwest Thomasville.

Ultimately, authorities resorted to using pepper balls and a K-9 to get Jackson out of an apartment, where they then arrested him, Knifer said. No one was injured in the standoff, per TPD.

Jackson is facing the following charges, per TPD:

  • Five counts of aggravated assault
  • Three counts of criminal damage to property
  • Two counts of burglary
  • One count of obstruction
