ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Family, friends and classmates are mourning the loss of a Rome High School junior soccer player who died suddenly last week.

Bairon Candido Ramos Vicente, 16, passed out on the field and later died, according to an online fundraiser created for the family.

“Bairon passed away doing what he loved and being with his friends,” they said. “He never really was the type to talk much, but he always managed to put a smile on everyone’s face, and he will be forever missed.”

Rome City Schools told our sister station Telemundo Atlanta that the incident occurred off school grounds and was not related to Rome High School.

“Rome City Schools is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Rome High School student. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, and loved ones,” the district said in a statement.

His casue of death has not been released.

“His passing has left a deep pain in the hearts of his family, friends, and classmates,” the fundraiser said.

They are raising money to cover funeral and hospital expenses.
