NORTH CAROLINA (WLOS) — President Donald Trump is set to visit North Carolina on the first trip of his second presidential term, according to the New York Post.
The New York Post reports that President Trump is scheduled to visit Hurricane Helene-damaged areas of Western North Carolina on Friday, Jan. 24. His trip will reportedly focus on viewing recovery efforts nearly four months after the hurricane struck the region, killing more than 100 people and causing over $50 billion in damages in North Carolina.
President Trump spoke about North Carolina near the beginning of his inaugural speech Monday, where he referred to the Biden administration's response after Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina.
PARTY LEADERS, POLITICAL EXPERTS WEIGH IN ON SECOND TRUMP PRESIDENCY
"Our country can no longer deliver basic services in times of emergency, as recently shown by the wonderful people of North Carolina – who've been treated so badly – and other states that are still suffering from a hurricane that took place many months ago," Trump said in his Jan. 20 address.
While touring Helene damages in Swannanoa in October 2024, then-former President Trump criticized the federal government's Helene response and vowed his commitment to rebuilding these communities.
"Every single inch of every property will be fully rebuilt, greater and more beautiful than it was before," Trump said in Swannanoa on Oct. 21. "Many Americans in this region felt helpless and abandoned and left behind by their government and yet in North Carolina's hour of desperation, the American people answered the call more so than your federal government."
TRUMP CRITICIZES FEMA RESPONSE DURING HELENE STORM DAMAGE TOUR IN NORTH CAROLINA
During his trip to Swannanoa, Trump also repeated debunked statements about FEMA's response to the natural disaster. He falsely claimed that FEMA spent much of its budget helping people illegally cross the border, hence hampering the agency's response to Helene.
President Trump will also visit California on Friday to tour fire-damaged areas.
No further details on Trump's visit to North Carolina are available at this time.
