Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The Albany Museum of Art (AMA) summer art camp season starts the day after Memorial Day. The 11 camps offer an array of art-inspired themes, including first-time choices and perennial favorites.
“One of our camps sold out a couple of weeks ago, and another one only has a seat or two left,” AMA Director of Education and Public Programming Annie Vanoteghem said. “We’re seeing a lot of interest. We were getting calls from some parents asking about the schedule and when registration would open even before the surprise January snow had time to melt!”
Registration open for Albany Museum of Art Summer CampsThe AMA recently hosted its annual Art Ball and raised more than $73,000. That money will go towards educational programs like free school field trips and art camp scholarships. Vanoteghem says there’s something for everyone.
”We have camps for business-minded kid who wants to create something that they can sell, and they actually do get to sell their things at the end of the week; we have a pop-up. We have camps for kids interested in nerd-type things, such as role-play games and creating miniatures, game boards, maps, and things like that. We’ll have a camp for kids who are more interested in photography. So, really, there’s something for everybody no matter where they land. They don’t have to love to paint, and they don’t have to consider themselves an artist to come to art camp,” said Vanoteghem.
All weeklong camps are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for Littles Camps, which are 9 a.m. to noon. Some full-day camps have half-day options. Several full-day camps also offer free drop-off at 8 a.m. and late pick-up at 5 p.m.
