ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - There are still questions growing over a recorded audio clip of an Albany State University (ASU) professor allegedly berating a student.

The nearly three-minute recording, which does not explicitly name either party, allegedly captures a professor berating a student over her membership in a National Panhellenic Council Greek organization—Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

Albany State has not officially confirmed the professor’s name, but sources close to the incident previously said the professor had received several complaints but was still teaching the same students before being placed on administrative leave in April.

WALB submitted detailed follow-up questions to the university:

• Where does the investigation stand?
• Is the professor still on administrative leave?
• Is the professor expected to return to teaching this summer? This fall?
• Have additional complaints been filed against that professor?

ASU did not directly answer any of those questions but provided the statement below.

“Albany State University is unable to comment on specific personnel matters. However, the University is aware of the concerns that have been raised and is addressing them in accordance with established university policies and procedures. At this time, the University has no additional information to share.”

That is a step back from the university’s earlier response, which confirmed that the faculty member had been placed on leave.

WALB also reached out to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, regional and national communications office for a statement earlier this month, but we received no response.
