Description
EARLY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) —A proposed data center ordinance is drawing strong opinions in Early County, where local leaders are weighing how to regulate future development.
County officials held a workshop this week to discuss a draft ordinance that would set guidelines for data center projects. While no vote was taken, the meeting drew a packed crowd of residents who shared concerns and asked questions about what potential projects could mean for the community.
Officials said two data center proposals are currently being considered in the area—one within the city and another in the county.
During the workshop, residents voiced both support and opposition. Some speakers pointed to possible economic benefits, while others raised concerns about the impact on local resources and quality of life.
City Commissioner Jeffery Haynes noted that if the data centers do not move forward, it could affect the city’s ability to maintain services.
No action was taken during the meeting, and county leaders indicated more discussions are expected before any decisions are made. Even after the workshop, residents continued weighing in through the Facebook Live recording of the commissioners’ meeting.
