KERRVILLE, Texas (KABB/WOAI) — President Donald Trump has now come and gone from the Texas Hill Country, and residents of Kerrville could not have been more pleased with his long-awaited visit.

“Awe man this is a once in a lifetime,” Kerrville resident Jose Javier Jimenez said. “Seeing him come down to this community after what happened it speaks a lot”

People lined up for hours along Highway 27 just to catch a glimpse of President Trump and his motorcade.

“I expected it,” Cynthia Vela, another Kerrville resident, said. “I follow him and figured he would come. So, I’m excited.”

Residents like Vela and Jimenez said that despite the devastation, the president coming to their community means everything to them.

“I’m glad he’s in Kerrville,” Lupe Vela said. “A lot of people are excited.”

To them, the most powerful man in the world coming to a community that is dealing with the most difficult time in their lives gives them the hope and belief that they will get through this tragedy.

"That he sees even the smallest people,” Jimenez said. “It's not just big cities; he comes down to the smallest ones and shows support for the ones who really so need it."

Couple that with the outpouring of support and help from all over the country -- especially in Texas -- and you get a community itching to come back stronger than ever before.

“It’s great,” Central Texas native Marilyn Argo said. “It doesn’t matter what your race is, what your religion is, we are all coming together because God loves all of us, and we all need each other.”

“We’re all getting together, and we are going to get through it all together,” Lupe said.

So, even though the president was only here for a few hours, this community will remember this day for months and years to come.
