WAHINGTON (7News) — President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony has been moved to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on Monday due to winter weather in Washington, D.C., according to ABC News sources.

The decision to relocate indoors marks a rare departure from the traditional outdoor setting on the Capitol steps. This means both Trump and Vice-President-elect JD Vance will be sworn into office inside the Rotunda, the sources said.

This is not the first time weather has disrupted an inauguration. The coldest inauguration on recordoccurred on Jan. 20, 1985, during President Ronald Reagan’s second swearing-in ceremony. With temperatures at noon reaching only 7F, the event was moved indoors, and the traditional parade was canceled. Henry Taft's was also held indoors in 1909 and considered the worst weather day due to a storm that dropped 10 inches of snow over the city.

For Trump's second inauguration, the weather forecast looks quite chilly with blustery cold wind chills, and temperatures in the low 20s during the afternoon. At this time, snow looks unlikely on Monday. However, a departing weather-maker Sunday night looks to bring anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of snow to the National Mall.

It's not clear how this new change will affect other scheduled events and the Inauguration Day Parade.

According to CNN, Trump’s team will potentially hold some of the festivities at Capitol One Arena in D.C., where Trump is expected to hold a "Make America Great Again Victory Rally" on Sunday.

Tens of thousands of people are planning to travel to the National Mall to witness Trump being sworn in publicly. However, those plans are still under consideration, the sources told CNN.
