LOS ANGELES (TNND) — President Joe Biden delivered his "good news" of becoming a great-grandfather. Following the baby announcement, the 82-year-old great-grandad was criticized over the timing of his news.

"But the good news is, I'm a great-grandfather as of today, Biden told reporters at a firehouse in Santa Monica, California.

Biden’s decision to announce the birth at an emergency press conference received backlash.

"A tragedy in California and of course Joe Biden turns it all around to talk about himself. January 20th can't get here soon enough," one person wrote on X.

"Read the room, Joe," a second person wrote.

Biden was there on Wednesday to be briefed on the ongoing wildfires in the Pacific Palisades.

"I'm going to remember this day for a lot of reasons," said the president while standing next to California Governor Gavin Newsom and other officials who are dealing with the deadly wildfires that have destroyed thousands of homes and businesses.

According to reports, the retiring president refused to answer questions from reporters about the natural disaster.

During the briefing, Biden said he had signed off on a federal disaster declaration that would allow for federal funding to be made available to impacted individuals in Los Angeles County. The commander-in-chief also said he had directed the Department of Defense to make more personnel and tools available to fight the fires.

He also delivered news about his son, Hunter, who lives in Malibu, California.

"It’s astounding what has happened," he said. "Only one piece of good news: my son lives out here and his wife. They got a notification yesterday that their home was probably burned to the ground. Today, it appears that it’s still standing, they’re not sure."

Biden visited Cedars-Sinai Hospital for the birth of William Brannon Neal IV Wednesday morning before receiving the briefing.

The first lady, Jill Biden, introduced the newborn in an Instagram post. The couple could be seen holding their 10-pound great-grandson.

Biden has seven grandchildren.
