Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia farmers expressed concern on Wednesday, April 15, as nearly the entire state is facing drought conditions.
The Georgia Peanut Commission shared a post on Facebook Wednesday saying that they are praying for all farmers impacted by the drought.
“Georgia farmers need us now more than ever...From everyone at the Georgia Peanut Commission, we are praying for you.”

According to the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS), nearly 98% of the state is currently in a drought, with 19% experiencing the highest severity. Many Southwest Georgia counties are in those areas of exceptional drought.
NIDIS also said the soil in many parts of Georgia has poor water-holding capacity, and droughts can develop quickly.
In some cases, many areas can experience a “flash drought,” which refers to rapid drought conditions caused by lack of rain and high temperatures drying out landscapes.
