Description
CRISP COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to complaints of drivers not stopping for school bus stop arms.
Crisp County deputies enforced “Operation Stop Arm” on Wednesday afternoon, according to CCSO.
“Operation Stop Arm” is a statewide effort to enforce laws regarding stopping for school buses with activated stop arms and flashing lights, the sheriff’s office said.
“Georgia law mandates that ALL traffic in both directions must stop on a two-lane road when a school bus with flashing red lights and an extended arm is stopped to load or unload passengers.”
Drivers who fail to comply may face the following fines and penalties:
- Mandatory court appearance
- Up to $1,000 fine
- Up to six points on driving record
- A conviction under 21 years of age constitutes license suspension
