ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — [UPDATE: Sept. 8 at 12:44 p.m.] — WALB has now learned the name of the person who was shot in this incident.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said the victim was identified as 39-year-old Andrew Phillips.

Another person was injured in this case, according to a press release from the Albany Police Department (APD).

APD said officers first responded to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital at about 3:20 a.m. after reports of a shooting victim being treated there. The person at the hospital had non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The injured victim reportedly told police that shots were fired in the 1100 block of Van Deman Street.

[ORIGINAL: Sept. 8 at 8:17 a.m.] - Albany Police are investigating a deadly shooting reported early Tuesday morning in east Albany.

Dozens of shell casings were found along the 1100th block of Van Deman Street around 5 a.m. Tuesday, as officers investigated the shooting.

At this time, it’s unclear what led up to the shooting or what circumstances surrounded the incident.
