NEW YORK (TNND) — New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch is being very vocal about not wanting the National Guard to take over law enforcement in the city, saying she is "revolted" at the thought of it.

Tisch made the comments during a Citizens Budget Commission Breakfast in Midtown on Monday, before the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it would target illegal immigrants in Chicago who have committed crimes.

"As a lifelong New Yorker, I am revolted by the idea of the militarization of our streets," Tisch said. "I will be very clear with anybody, all of you, the attorney general, anyone who wants to talk to me about this, that the NYPD, we've got this. We don't need or want the federal government's help here in that way."

She also insisted that NYPD officers are better suited to handle and bring down crime.

"National Guard, God bless them, they are not trained to handle street crime in New York City. They are trained on a lot of things, that happens to be one of the things they are not trained in," Tisch continued.

The nation's capital was one of the first big cities to be taken over by troops when Trump ordered a federal takeover in August.

According to the White House, 2,120 people have been arrested, including 20 alleged gang members from MS-13 and the Venezuelan group, Tren de Aragua.

D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to block what he calls the federal government’s “illegal deployment” of National Guard troops in the District.

The emergency order is set to expire on Wednesday, with no extension expected on Capitol Hill. Control of the Metropolitan Police Department would revert to the District unless new action is taken.
