AMERICUS, Ga. (WALB) - The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and Americus Police Department partnered with agencies in the West Central Traffic Enforcement Network for a traffic safety operation Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The operation focused on enforcing seat belt laws, distracted driving violations and child passenger safety requirements, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers issued 38 citations during the enforcement period:
- Seat belt violations: 16
- Window tint violations: 8
- Expired registration: 3
- Child restraint violations: 3
- Hands-free violations: 4
- License violations: 2
- Brake light/turn signal violation: 1
- Failure to signal lane change: 1
Officers also attempted to serve six warrants, resulting in one arrest, according to the sheriff’s office.
