ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - WALB has learned that a man is currently in the Dougherty County Jail after a child brought a note with her to school crying out for help in October.

In an incident report released by the Albany Police Department— investigators say they responded to Radium Springs Middle School after a student was sent to school with an “alarming note” by her mother.

According to APD the note stated, “Please help us!! I fear we won’t make it thru the weekend alive. Call me & say … was in a fight & you need me to come to the school. I don’t have transportation but we have to get away! Please don’t send the police for fear that I’ll be attacked again!”

Officials say they observed swelling and bruising to the students left eye. They also say in the report, that the student advised them that their mother’s boyfriend, Xavius Williams, had recently come home drunk. Resulting in the mom and Williams getting into an altercation.

The report stated that the student attempted to stop the altercation and, “Williams then punched … with his right fist in her left eye.” It also says when the mother stepped between the two, “Williams then wrapped his arms around both … necks and began to strangle them.”

The school did follow the mother’s wishes in the note, and the police went and picked her up and brought her to the school.

Police also picked up Williams who is currently awaiting trial for this incident. Officials say once this case is finalized in Dougherty County, he will be transferred to Lee County for violation of probation.
