VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - Greenleaf Behavioral Health opened the door to services for another group in the community.

The 24 bed unit will serve the senior population expanding Greenleaf’s plan to provide behavioral health through all stages of life.

Keianna Brown, Director of Clinical Services said, “We’ve been around for a while now so I think just knowing Greenleaf was their safe space when they were younger now that maybe they have been off their meds they have a place to come to that they are comfortable with.”

The unit was designed to properly diagnosis and treat seniors with conditions like depression, Alzheimer’s, and other complex disorders.

Genesis Lewis, Greenleaf Therapist said, “Greenleaf understands that mental health is important throughout the lifespan. For me it’s another opportunity to help our community and our families.”

Lewis is the lead therapist in the Palm Unit for seniors.

She’s said this is a way to support those who may be struggling with retirement, family growth, or change in medications.

“Mental health is important at any age and this will show we are serious about helping people no matter how old they are,” Lewis said.

Therapists will work with patients individually and as a group to help them return to normalcy.

“Whether they are in the homes or with family and family may not be able to manage the behavior they are displaying and they are brought into our facility so we can get them out of crisis and back into the homes,” Brown said.

Greenleaf accepts patients 24/7 but they will begin accepting patients in the new unit on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
