DAWSON, Ga. (WALB) - Marco Kirk will no longer serve as head football coach at Terrell County High School.

Kirk announced his departure in a Facebook post Friday night, one season after arriving to lead the Greenwave program.

“Unfortunately, I will not be returning as your head football coach and teacher,” Kirk wrote. “I wish Terrell County School System and athletic department success moving forward.”

Kirk came to Terrell County ahead of the 2025 season looking to change the program’s culture and identity after the team went 2-8 in 2024. He replaced Jack Harris who took the head coaching position at Terrell Academy.

In 2025, the Green Wave finished 1-9 and 0-6 in the region.

In his post, Kirk thanked players, staff and the community.

“Please accept my heartfelt gratitude. The past year has provided me with profound growth and unforgettable experiences,” Kirk wrote. “I am pleased to have embarked on my head football coaching career in this community. To each player, I express my deepest thanks for allowing us to coach and mentor you in the pursuit of excellence. You will always hold a special place in my heart, and my commitment to your well-being remains steadfast. Furthermore, I extend my gratitude to the athletic director, coaching staff, administrators, school board, superintendent, parents, and the community for their unwavering support throughout the season.”

Terrell County has not named a replacement.
