ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A man convicted of murder who was mistakenly released from the Clayton County Jail has been apprehended.
Kathan Guzman was arrested in Orlando, Florida on Friday by the U.S. Marshal’s Office.
Guzman was mistakenly released from the jail on March 27, just before 5 p.m., according to Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen.
The Clayton County District Attorney’s Office said it was notified of Guzman’s mistaken release on Tuesday, April 8, which also notified the sheriff’s office.
“I immediately activated my fugitive squad and through the relationships and partnerships I’ve built over the last two years with other law enforcement agencies, I personally contacted every metro Atlanta sheriff. Within 60 minutes, I had secured resources from as far away as Paulding County,” Allen said in a statement.
Allen said Guzman’s release is under investigation and “disciplinary actions are pending.”
“Once the investigation is complete, it may result in the termination of employees within the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office,” he said.
Guzman was convicted on a felony murder charge in October 2024 in connection to the death of his girlfriend Delila Grayson, 19. He was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole.
