ECHOLS COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) -  A Mayday man is facing charges after allegedly dumping trailer loads of construction debris illegally in Echols County, thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen.

According to Sheriff Courson of the Echols County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) on March 24, 2025, a tipster reported the illegal dumping at the 700 block of Howell Road, near Mayday Beach. The tip included a detailed description of the vehicle involved and its license plate number, which helped authorities quickly launch an investigation.

As a result, 51-year-old Rodney Pierce of Mayday was identified and arrested. He has been charged with Unlawful Dumping and was transported to the Lowndes County Jail for processing.

In addition to the criminal charge, Pierce may be required to pay more than $800 in restitution to cover the costs of debris removal and site cleanup.

Sheriff Courson praised the community member for stepping forward and encouraged others to report similar incidents. “We take unlawful dumping seriously,” he said. “If you see something, say something. Tipsters can remain anonymous.”
