LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) – Officials say the lockdown at Moody Air Force Base has been lifted after security personnel investigated a potential concern Tuesday morning.

According to base officials, the installation went on lockdown at around 10:00 a.m. while security teams looked into a possible security issue. During that time, access to the base and all movement were temporarily restricted out of an abundance of caution.

Officials announced around 11 a.m. that the lockdown had been lifted and issued an “all clear” after completing their investigation.

Base leaders thanked members of the community for remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activity. They also highlighted the importance of programs like “See Something, Say Something,” which encourage people to report potential safety concerns.

There was no threat on base and that the lockdown was the result of a simple miscommunication... The lockdown was initiated out of an abundance of caution for safety.
