GRADY COUNTY, (WALB) - Drivers traveling well above the speed limit were stopped during a recent traffic enforcement effort conducted by Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO).
The sheriff said deputies monitored several roadways posted at 55 miles per hour and pulled over a number of drivers who were traveling significantly faster than the legal limit. Some vehicles were reportedly clocked at speeds of 80 miles per hour or more in those zones.

Officials say the goal of the enforcement effort is not simply to issue citations but to prevent crashes and improve safety on local roads.
“Speed limits are not suggestions,” the sheriff said. “They are set for the safety of everyone on the road. When speeds increase, reaction time decreases and the severity of crashes rises dramatically.”
The sheriff’s office is encouraging drivers to slow down, allow extra travel time, and stay focused while behind the wheel. Deputies say following posted speed limits helps protect drivers, passengers, and others sharing the road.

The sheriff also noted that deputies will continue monitoring local roadways and addressing unsafe driving behaviors as part of ongoing traffic enforcement efforts.
Officials thanked the many drivers who follow the rules of the road each day and help keep the community safe.
