LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - The Leesburg Police Department (LPD) wants to warn the public about recent scam calls.
According to Chief Christopher Prokesh, the 911 dispatch center told him that someone is calling Lee County residents, identifying themself as “Captain Prokesh of the Leesburg Police” and trying to use intimidation to scam them.
“According to reports, the caller claims that the recipient has an outstanding fine and that if they don’t remit payment immediately, a warrant will be issued for their arrest,” Chief Prokesh says.
Chief Prokesh would like to make it very clear that this is a scam. The Leesburg Police Department does not collect fines or fees for the court or any other reason, and they will never call someone attempting to elicit money.
LPD warns do not send this individual money or give them any credit card or personal information.
