LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A suspect in a Lee County firearm altercation is behind bars on over three dozen forgery charges and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On September, 14 around 8 a.m., Lee County deputies responded to an incident involving a firearm on Winding Way Road near Grace Baptist Church. The suspect in that altercation, later identified as Demarcus Green, ran away, according to officers.

Deputies spotted Green later as the passenger of a vehicle leaving a nearby business. LCSO says Green ran from the traffic stop, leading to another chase near Suttons Landing in Lee County. Green was tased during the pursuit and taken into custody, according to a press release from the LCSO.
A search of Green’s items revealed a Glock 48 pistol, suspected marijuana, and stolen mail. The mail contained more than 100 checks belonging to several Lee and Dougherty County businesses and churches, according to LCSO. As a convicted felon, Green is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Green faces over three dozen charges, including:
• 25 counts of Forgery in the Fourth Degree
• 13 counts of Forgery in the Third Degree
• Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer
• Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
• Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
• Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute
• Possession of Tools for the Commission of a Crime
“This case is also a great example of the teamwork between our Uniform Patrol Division and Criminal Investigations Division. Patrol personnel quickly located and apprehended Green, while our investigators worked to identify the scope of the stolen mail, checks, and other evidence connected to the case,”
