Description

LEESBURG, Ga. (WALB) - Lee county residents spoke out Tuesday at a public hearing asking for their input on multi-family developments in the county.

While no exact recommendation has been made, some residents say they do not want that kind of development in Lee county.

Three residents who are opposed to the development had different reasons as to why they didn’t want the multi-family developments, but they did have one reason in common. How it will affect the taxpayers in Lee County.

One resident even cited a land use report that he says the county paid for in 2018.

“Basically what I’m concerned about is the cost of services that the taxpayer will have to pay,” A concerned resident, said. “This report showed that a family with two children using the school system, the break even point for the cost of services was $792,000 for the house. If we’re going to go multi-family in the county the taxpayers are going to have to pick up that tab— and I don’t think that’s necessarily quite fair.”

The board of commissioners only heard from the public today. A vote will be made after an actual recommendation is presented, if it’s presented.
