ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -The Da Mob Motorcycle Club donated winter clothing and supplies to people at the Albany Warming Center as freezing temperatures continue across South Georgia.
The club distributed gloves, hats, socks, food, and water to warming center residents. The warming center does not provide food to those staying there.
“It’s a blessing to be a blessing,” said the club president, who was not identified by name. “Anytime we can do community outreach and give back to the community, that’s what really motorcycle clubs is about. Even though they get a bad stigma based off of what’s seen on TV. It’s the most wonderful feeling in the world.”
The club said recent deaths related to cold weather inspired their donation drive.
“At times, everybody needs somebody,” the president said. “When it was posted on TV that there was going to be really, really bad inclement weather as far as the cold and the temperatures, and with the deaths that has been happening because of this cold weather, we decided to come to the transportation center.”
Ja’Quan Riggins, a club member who helped with the event, said the donations show people they are not alone.
“There’s a lot of people out here cold, freezing, just need a couple of things to get them by,” Riggins said. “We just wanted to give back. That’s what it’s about. We’re offering some gloves and socks, some snacks, anything to get them through what they’re going through right now.”
The city of Albany said the warming center will remain open until Feb. 4, with the possibility of an extension depending on the weather. Donations will be accepted for as long as the center is open.
