Description
ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — Albany police (APD) are asking witnesses or potential victims to come forward regarding a man accused of indecent activity at both Phoebe North and the Fun Park on Saturday, Feb. 1.
Police arrested 36-year-old Stevie Bernard Richardson, but the investigation is ongoing, Albany Police Chief Michael Persley said on Monday, Feb. 2.
Incident at Phoebe North
According to the APD incident report, the incidents started Saturday morning just after 9 a.m. at Phoebe North’s urgent care clinic.
A Phoebe employee notified police that an unknown subject was “trying to touch on a visiting patient.”
The employee said Richardson attempted to enter the main entrance of Phoebe North but was denied access. A patient in the urgent care waiting room told police that Richardson sat down near her and began calling her by an unfamiliar name, “Keisha.” The report says Richardson then moved closer, sitting next to her and continuing to address her by the wrong name.
According to the report, “she told the subject she needed to use the restroom and stood up to get away from him, to which he grabbed her left buttocks and squeezed it into a grip.”
Second incident at Fun Park
After leaving Phoebe, Albany Police said Richardson went to Fun Park on Palmyra Road, where he committed similar inappropriate behavior.
“He inappropriately touched a person at that location. It was reported, and we responded. And later, as we were checking the area, we found him not too far from there,” Persley said.
Statements from businesses
Both Phoebe and Fun Park released statements about the incidents.
Phoebe’s statement reads: “Saturday, shortly after 9:00 a.m., a man walked into our urgent care clinic on the Phoebe North campus. He exposed himself and put his hand on someone in the waiting room. He then left the clinic, and the clinic staff immediately called Phoebe Security and 911. We appreciate the Albany Police Department’s quick response, and we are grateful that the suspect is currently in custody.”
Fun Park’s statement reads: “We are a family fun center with a zero tolerance policy for any inappropriate behavior. An employee noticed the individual behaving inappropriately and he was immediately asked to leave. Upon resistance we reached out to APD, turned over surveillance and have pressed charges against him. We have been providing safe family fun for over 60 years. We have not and will not tolerate any inappropriate or unsafe behaviors. We will prosecute to the full extent of the law in any situation that endangers our customers or staff.”
