ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A woman is dead, and a community is on edge after two shootings just hours apart in Albany.
The latest shooting claimed the life of a 56-year-old woman who was shot and killed on her own front porch.
Now, there are calls for action as residents demand for the community to stop the violence.
Albany police say 56-year-old Patricia Duncan was shot Thursday evening on Leonard Avenue. It was the second shooting in the city within just five hours.
According to witnesses, Duncan was on her front porch when someone opened fire from the stop sign across the street. She died at the scene.
Today, loved ones are urging the community to come together and for young people to choose peace.
“It’s going to take all communities... for everyone to work together to build a bridge to gap some of the violence that’s going on around here.” said Duncan’s friend.
“They don’t know how to live, they don’t know what life is. Guys, put the guns down. Enjoy life. God gave us life to live and to enjoy until He gets ready to take it away.” says Arthur Bryant, another friend of the Duncan’s.
No arrests have been made in either shooting, and police have not said whether the incidents are connected.
