Description
GEORGIA, (WALB) - Helping Mamas, Georgia’s leading baby supply bank, has expanded its reach in Southwest Georgia, providing critical support to families in need.
Thanks to nearly $500,000 in federal funding secured by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff for Fiscal Year 2023, the organization has launched a mobile diaper distribution program and opened an office in Albany.
Since the expansion, Helping Mamas has served nearly 8,500 families and distributed over 228,000 essential baby items across the region.
The expansion addresses a significant need. According to the National Diaper Bank Network, nearly half of Georgia infants and toddlers live in households below 200% of the federal poverty line, with many families unable to afford an adequate supply of diapers
The organization has also secured additional funding to continue growing its impact.
WALB’s Taylor Lewis spoke with volunteer Mykhayla Carroll, along with a local official’s perspective on how the program is helping families stay healthy and employed.
