WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (TNND) — Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could visit Washington again soon. On Thursday, President Trump told reporters on Air Force One he’d spoken with Netanyahu earlier that morning saying the visit could come as early as next week.

I think he's going to be coming to our country sometime in the not-too-distant future,” said Trump. “We'll speak about Israel, we'll speak about what's going on. That's another thing we like to get solved. I think we will get it solved. But, I think he very well may be coming.”

So far, Israel has not announced concrete plans for Netanyahu to return to Washington. The prime minister was the first foreign leader to visit Trump during his second term.

The president’s comments come as fighting continues in Gaza. Israel resumed its bombardment of the strip when ceasefire negotiations stalled last month. As for the future of Gaza, Netanyahu said this week Israel has plans to divide up Gaza and seize control of certain portions.

While Republicans remain largely united in support for Israel, the war in Gaza remains a contentious and divisive issue for Democrats.

This week, 15 Democratic senators voted in favor of withholding billions of dollars worth of weapons sales and other military aid from Israel, an effort led by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. The measures failed.

“The Netanyahu government of Israel has killed more than 50,000 people in Gaza,“ said Sanders on Wednesday. “The United States must end our complicity in these atrocities. we cannot be part of this any longer.”

We’re also learning this week, that the Trump Administration has moved forward on a $24 million arms sale to Israel.

While it’s a relatively small transaction in the context of military deals, it’s notable because the Biden Administration had delayed this exact sale over human rights concerns.
