MOULTRIE, Ga. (WALB) - The Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie-Colquitt County is expanding programs for local youth through new grant funding supporting arts and medical career initiatives.
Program Director Lateegra Fiveash said the funding helps the club reach more children. One grant expands the club’s arts partnership with the Colquitt County Arts Center, increasing weekly participation from 15 to up to 50 kids. A second grant launches a Medical Explorers program, providing students with hands-on healthcare exposure through PCOM South Georgia.
Fiveash said the programs are meaningful to her personally.
“Oh, it brings so much joy, so much excitement because I didn’t have that when I was younger,” Fiveash said. “So to expose them to that, that just brings me so much joy and excitement.”
Fiveash said the programs also help children reconnect socially following the isolation of COVID. She said studies show youth-to-youth connection has declined, and that structured group programs help kids build relationships, empathy and teamwork skills.
