Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Bee Smoothie Cafe, owned by Amelia Jenkins, was featured on week nine of Restaurant Roundup after receiving a perfect score of 100 on its food service inspection on Tuesday, March 10.

Bee Smoothie Cafe originally started as a mobile smoothie business, but is now located on Pine Avenue in Albany.

“It started about nine years ago in a mobile unit concession trailer where we sold smoothies and lemonades.”

This establishment offers healthy menu items ranging from sandwiches to salads, multiple flavors of lemonade and their staple menu item, smoothies.

“I felt like there was a need for a much healthier variety of food.”

Jenkins’ experience in food safety came long before the opening of Bee Smoothie cafe.

“My background in the grocery industry of thirty years plus has definitely been a contributing factor to understanding the importance of food safety.

Jenkins says that once employees are hired, they go through a two to four-week training period. In that period, along with regular training responsibilities, they learn how to maintain food safety standards.

“On a daily basis, there are routine things that we do to ensure that food is safe... making sure that your three-compartment sink is set up, as well as making sure there are paper towels, hand soap, and your handwashing station is readily available.”

Jenkins and her team also got a perfect score on their food service inspection in September 2025, so if they get a 100 on their next one in six months (most likely September), that would make three in a row in a span of 12 months.

“We work every day to make sure that we’re doing the things we need to do so that we don’t have to get ready when they [health inspectors] do come, we’re already ready”.

Customers can expect new menu items in the near future at Bee Smoothie Cafe.

“In the immediate future, we definitely have a breakfast menu that’s coming soon where we’ll be offering breakfast bagels as well as breakfast paninis.”

Jenkins lives by her philosophy of “continuing to coach every day,” and it’s been helpful to her and her team for the longevity of Bee Smoothie Cafe, and she advises other restaurant owners and managers to follow the same principles for longevity as well.

“Educating yourself as the business owner or the manager, and also making sure that you continue to coach each and every day to your associates, because that’s how you’re going to achieve that 100.”
