ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A massive tree fell and caused problems for residents in a metro Atlanta neighborhood Thursday morning.

The tree fell in the front yard of a home on Dellwood Drive off of Collier Road - near Piedmont Hospital.

The tree disrupted travel for neighbors as they could not get in or out of Dellwood Drive for many hours.

One neighbor told Atlanta News First that around 10 to 12 houses on the street are being affected by the tree being down. He said he had to call an Uber to get to the airport when he realized the street was blocked.

Other parents had to walk their children around the debris in order to get them to school on time.

Atlanta News First also spoke with a woman who’s renting the home where the tree fell in the front yard. She heard a crash around 3:30 a.m.

“I was just thankful that it didn’t fall on the house,” neighbor Katie N. said. “Seriously I just said thank you, God. That’s what I thought when I saw it.”

Georgia Power crews were at the scene and told Atlanta News First that the city would need to move the tree as they could not due to its size.

Around 9 a.m. crews with Atlanta’s Parks and Recreation division showed up with tools to begin chopping up and removing the tree.

Around 25 customers were reportedly without power in the area, according to Georgia Power’s outage map. The power has since been restored.

No houses or cars were hit when the tree fell.
