ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - The H.E.A.R.T. Organization Inc. (Hands Extended Across Reaching Together) held its annual Shoes From the HEART distribution event on Wednesday Dec 17, to ensure hundreds of local students enter the holiday season with new shoes. With the help of the community, H.E.A.R.T. acquired 400 new pairs of athletic shoes to give away to five local elementary schools.

The recipient schools are:

• Radium Springs Elementary

• Robert Harvey Elementary

• Turner Elementary

• Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary

• North Side Elementary

The following are reasons why the H.E.A.R.T. organization believes children should have new, attractive athletic shoes that fit:

• Boost in self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Leading to improved school attendance and behavior in the classroom
• Ensures all children can participate in physical education
• Students can participate in after-school athletic programs like basketball, soccer, and cheerleading
  • Promoting leadership, discipline, and good sportsmanship

Call for Continued Support

As a charitable organization, H.E.A.R.T. depends on the goodwill of the community to ensure every elementary school-age child in Albany/Dougherty County will have proper footwear.
