Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Neighbors on a normally quiet Albany street say one house has turned their peaceful neighborhood into a place where they no longer feel safe.

Residents on Northwood Drive, located off Westgate Drive and Westover Boulevard, say things have changed dramatically in the last year — and they’re pointing to one family living in one home as the source of their problems.

Drive-By Shooting Caught on Ring Video

Residents on Northwood Drive, located off Westgate Drive and Westover Boulevard, say things have changed dramatically in the last year.

The latest incident occurred on Monday, Dec 15, when a drive-by shooting involving someone who lives in the home was caught on a neighbor’s Ring video. The footage shows a car speeding by after the shooting.

“We’ve worked hard all our life to have a home, for this to come into our neighborhood and change everything. Your peace, safety, and being able to rest at night. Nobody should have to live with that in their own home,” one neighbor told WALB News 10.

The neighbor described the fear they felt during the shooting.

“My hands were shaking; my voice was trembling. I was scared to death,” they said.

17 Police Calls This Year

According to information from the Albany Police Department, there have been 17 calls for service to the same home on the 1700 block of Northwood Drive this year.

The list includes several calls for:

  • Family violence
  • Suspicious auto
  • Disorderly conduct

That list does not include Monday’s drive-by shooting.

Pattern of Disturbances

Neighbors say the problems have been ongoing for the past year. They report:

  • Hearing arguing outside late at night
  • Seeing many cars driving to and from the house
  • Vehicles speeding through the neighborhood
  • And now, gunshots

“This is very unusual. You hear no trouble out of anybody around the neighborhood. Find out what’s going on in that home and stop it. That’s what’s got to happen,” another concerned neighbor said.

Chief’s Call to Action

Just this week, Albany Police Chief Michael Persley encouraged neighborhoods dealing with one problematic house to report it.

“What is that one house? Let us know so we can come out and do something about it,” Persley said.

No Arrests Yet

Police have not arrested anyone in Monday’s drive-by shooting.

Neighbors say they spoke with WALB News 10 with hopes that the troublesome neighbor will get the message — they aren’t going to take it anymore.
