PHILADELPHIA (TNND) — Vice President Kamala Harris and Liz Cheney are teaming up again on Monday for a series of moderated conversations in several "blue wall" battleground states in a bid to win over independents and moderate Republicans.
The first event took place in a Philadelphia suburb where Harris said Donald Trump “has been using the power of the presidency to demean and to divide us” and “people are exhausted with that.”
“People around the world are watching,” Harris said. “And sometimes I do fret a bit about whether we as Americans truly understand how important we are to the world.”
Cheney, a former congresswoman from Wyoming, said her background as a conservative means she prioritizes the Constitution over her political party, and she was concerned about allowing a “totally erratic, completely unstable” Trump to run foreign policy.
“Our adversaries know that they can play Donald Trump," she said. "And we cannot afford to take that risk.”
Cheney was the top Republican on the House committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, earning Trump’s disdain and effectively exiling herself from her own party.
She lost her Wyoming seat to a Trump-endorsed candidate two years ago and endorsed Harris, the Democratic nominee, in September.
While discussing her agenda, Harris reiterated that her administration "will not be a continuation of the Biden administration" adding that she will "bring to it my own ideas, my own experiences."
Although the conversation steered towards painting Trump as a dangerous choice for Americans, Harris also struck a moderate tone and promised to "invite good ideas from wherever they come" insisting "there should be a healthy two-party system."
“We need to be able to have these good intense debates about issues that are grounded in fact,” Harris said.
"Imagine!" Cheney responded with the crowd bursting into applause.
“Let’s start there!" Harris said as the audience clapped. "Can you believe that’s an applause line?”
Harris and Cheney are scheduled to attend two more events including Oakland Countyin suburban Detroit and Waukesha County outside of Milwaukee.
Trump responded on social media by calling Cheney "dumb as a rock" and accusing her of being a "war hawk."
With just over two weeks until election day, Harris is rounding up support from every possible voter and hoping to persuade those who are undecided.
