GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A traffic stop for speeding in Grady County early Saturday morning led to the arrest of a Florida woman on felony drug charges, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they stopped 28-year-old Brittany Jones Butler, of Tallahassee, Florida, for speeding. During the traffic stop, investigators developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

According to the sheriff’s office, the search resulted in the discovery of a quantity of suspected illegal narcotics and approximately $7,000 in U.S. currency, both of which were seized as evidence.

Butler was arrested and charged with Possession of Narcotics with Intent to Distribute. She was transported to the Grady County Detention Center for booking.

Grady County Sheriff Martin “Earl” Prince said the case highlights the importance of proactive traffic enforcement.

“A simple traffic violation turned into another example of criminals attempting to move illegal drugs through our communities,” Prince said. “Let this serve as a warning: if you choose to bring drugs into Grady County or use our roads for criminal activity, you can expect to be stopped, investigated, arrested, and prosecuted. Our deputies remain proactive, vigilant, and committed to protecting the citizens of this county. We will continue to enforce the law aggressively and work every day to keep drugs and crime off our streets.”

The Grady County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing.
