Description

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) -A City of Albany employee is again turning to Facebook to solicit donations for TSA agents working without pay during the latest partial government shutdown.

The worker noted that many TSA employees used retirement savings to cover bills during a shutdown in November and are now asking residents for help again.

Businesses donate meals to airport workers

Honey Baked Ham in Albany has donated meals to TSA officers at the airport three times.

“We don’t turn away homeless people. I wouldn’t let a cat go hungry. I mean, they’re not getting paid. They’re showing up to work. They’re providing an essential service. And I think we just, everybody needs to help out. I mean, just do what we can,” said Reynolds Horton, Honey Baked Ham general manager.

Small businesses also pitching in

Business partners Ashton Ford and Yvette Bray have been dropping off teas and baked goods from their shop, Healthy Love, as a pick-me-up for TSA workers.

“And it’s still nice to allow us to help others in the community that are going without pay. Yes, we are a small business, but giving back to the community means a lot to the both of us,” Ford said.

How to help

Community members who want to help can contact the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport. Residents near Valdosta are also being asked to support TSA workers at Valdosta Regional Airport.
