Attendance at this year's Georgia National Fair in Perry reached a record 612,706 visitors from Oct. 2 to Oct. 12, marking a significant increase from previous years.

Happy Wyatt, Georgia Grown marketing director, attributed the success to favorable weather and free admission for military personnel.

"The weather was beautiful. People were enjoying time outside. A lot of the time, there was no charge for the Hometown Heroes, the military,” she said. “Right now, with the military being furloughed, what's better than a free day at the fair? So, that was brilliant, and a great opportunity for them to get out as a family and sort of forget the stresses."

The fair also saw increased sales at the Georgia Grown store, with over 90 vendors contributing to $185,000 in sales over ten days. Wyatt expressed optimism for the future, stating, "Records are made to be broken, right? So, let's go ahead and say we want $200,000 dollars."
The economic impact of the fair is still being assessed.
