Description
WORTH COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced it will begin safety improvements at an infamous Worth County intersection following a string of serious accidents.
GDOT says crews will install a temporary “reduced conflict U-turn” or RCUT at SR 300 and SR 32 starting Nov. 1.
The design restricts traffic coming from SR 32 and reduces potential accidents on the major highway, including angle crashes.
When completed, traffic on SR 32 can no longer cross or turn left at SR 300. Drivers would instead turn right, travel to the nearest exit median, and complete a U-turn. However, traffic movement on SR 300 will not change.
This comes after the intersection has been the site of multiple crashes in recent years, including an accident that left two people dead in August.
PREVIOUS COVERAGE ON SERIOUS CRASHES AT SR 300 and SR 32 IN WORTH COUNTY:
The state agency announced in June that it would shift to a possible roundabout plan, after Worth County officials objected to the RCUT design.
GDOT confirmed in August that the roundabout will be built at the intersection, but the project is several years out, slated for Fiscal Year 2029.
Until then, the RCUT is expected to be completed in December.
