PRESTON, Ga. (WTVM) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a double homicide in Preston, about 20 miles west of Americus, after two 17-year-old boys were found dead Wednesday.

The cause of death has not been released by officials.

What residents say they heard

Residents near the scene said they heard four to five gunshots around 10:30 p.m. the night before — something they described as unusual for the area.

How the boys were found

One of the boys’ mothers began looking for her son after he missed his curfew. She tracked his location using her phone, which led family members to the scene, according to residents.

The car the teens were in was found down the road from where their bodies were discovered. Residents said the two boys were friends.

Caution tape remained up at the scene as deputies continued their investigation.
