ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is asking the public for information after a 25-year-old Navy sailor was found dead in a river on Monday.

Near 1 p.m., a fisherman found Devin Jeter’s body at a boat landing by the Ocmulgee River, which was near Lumber City in Telfair County. The man from Scottsdale, Georgia, had been reported missing by his family three days earlier, the GBI said.

Jeter was last known to be at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Nov. 7. He rented a silver 2024 Jeep Compass with the Florida license plate EWAG47 and was on his way to Jacksonville, Florida, where he was stationed, according to the GBI.

Jeter didn’t show up to work the next day, and his co-workers told his family, who reported him missing.

An autopsy didn’t reveal any obvious injuries, but more tests are being run, according to the GBI. Jeter’s rented Jeep Compass still hasn’t been found.

Now, the GBI is asking to speak with anyone who may have seen Jeter or his vehicle between Atlanta and Lumber City.

“Any information, no matter how small, could be vital in solving this case,” the GBI said in a statement.

Anyone with information can call the GBI’s regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988. You can also share anonymous tips by calling 1-800-597-TIPS (8477), sending an online report or downloading the “See Something, Send Something” mobile app.
