FITZGERALD, Ga. (WALB) - One person is injured after a house fire in Fitzgerald on Tuesday afternoon.
The Fitzgerald Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Evergreen Way at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Two men were inside the house at the time of the fire, according to the fire department.
The fire department tells WALB that one of the men was able to safely get out of the house, but the other had to be assisted out. The man who had to be assisted out suffered first and second-degree burns and smoke inhalation and was airlifted to Augusta for treatment.
The person who was able to get out of the house will be staying with someone they know.
The fire department said about half of the house was damaged by the fire. Water and fire damage have made the house unlivable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
