ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Friday is the last day to vote early in Georgia’s midterm elections, with Election Day eight days away.

More than 1.5 million Georgians have already voted, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. The office said more than 800,000 ballots were cast in the past week alone.

Over the weekend, President Donald Trump campaigned in Perry for Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson and Rep. Mike Collins, who is running for U.S. Senate.

In an exclusive interview with Atlanta News First, Trump addressed the U.S. Department of Justice’s plan to send poll monitors to metro Atlanta counties.

“When you look at the people that run Atlanta, I would be concerned, but I’m not because we’ll have professionals that will just be there to watch,” Trump said.

Vice President JD Vance made a stop in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Sen. Jon Ossoff campaigned in Cobb County on Saturday with former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, urging supporters to exercise their right to vote.

“Donald Trump’s attacks on civil rights and voting rights have been focused on Georgia, and our answer will be massive and overwhelming,” Ossoff said.

Former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris are expected to campaign in Georgia this week for Ossoff and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Voters say the tight races, economy, and cost of living are driving them to the polls.

Trump blamed Democrats for inflation and rising costs.

“We had the worst inflation in the history of our country under Joe Bidden,” Trump said.

Ossoff said Trump’s policies are hurting Georgia families.

“If ever there was a time in American history when we needed checks and balances in our government, it’s right now,” Ossoff said.

The last day to vote early is Friday, Oct. 30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
